Minsk fireworks misfire killing elderly woman


According to the eyewitnesses’ testimony posted in social networks, there was an emergency during the fireworks on Independence Day in Minsk. Investigative Committee has confirmed that a 64 year old woman was killed after fireworks exploded low above the ground. She was watching fireworks on the banks of the Svislach river.

“The investigators are now looking into her death. A criminal case may be opened. In addition, based on the preliminary data, several other victims received medical assistance in connection with the injuries. However, they did not need hospitalization. The exact number of people who applied to medical institutions is being established,” said the Investigative Committee in its telegram channel.

It is not yet clear what happened. According to one version, several shells exploded too low. Another scenario could involve a separate fireworks set explosion.

 



“A commission of the Ministry of Defense in cooperation with the Investigation Committee is now establishing the causes of injury during the fireworks in Minsk. Four people have been injured. Of these, one woman received injuries incompatible with life. The Ministry expresses its condolences to the relatives of the deceased and will provide the necessary assistance. It was found that the charges from this fireworks set had already been used before,” said the Ministry of Defense.
