Another group of people sentenced for 'mass riots' in Brest


In Brest court Judge Sviataslau Kalina has passed a sentence upon the third group of people accused of rioting during the events of August 9-10, 2020, writes the Human Rights Centre “Viasna”.

Judge of Brest Leninski Court Sviataslau Kalina found those accused of “mass disorder” during the events of August 9-10 guilty of committing a crime under Part 2 Article 293 of the Criminal Code. And sentenced Brest residents to 3 to 4.5 years in jail.

Anton Sotnikau – 4 years and 6 months in jail;

Raman Hvazdiolka, Vadzim Zhylinski, Dzyanis Zhuk and Yury Kuzmich – 4 years in jail;

Mikita Hancharou, Dzmitry Tur – 3 years and 6 months in prison;

Dzmitry Knyazeu, Dzmitry Panko, and Maksim Shatokhin (a minor) – 3 years in prison.

The political prisoners were also considered “prone to extremism” and placed on a preventive register.
