Barbed wire unwelcome: Symbol of Russia-Belarus friendship under restoration

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]The city authorities have apparently ordered to paint over the spikes of barbed wire drawn on one of the emblems of the friendship of Belarus and Russia.

The giant graffiti appeared on the wall of the 12-storey block of flats in Mahiliouskaya Street in Minsk in the summer of 2016. The authors made a picture of a Belarusian boy giving flowers to a Russian girl in the run-up of Russia Day which is celebrated on June, 12. There is also the inscription ‘Moscow-Minsk’ and a heart in the colors of the Belarusian and the Russian flags.

But in October, the mural was ‘completed’: barbed wire was drawn on the bouquet and the wreath. Minsk authorities issued an ultimatum to an anonymous artist, but his identity seems to have not been established yet.
