‘We are one nation’. Putin-linked expert urges Belarusians to 'come to senses'

Retired Lt. Gen. Leonid Reshetnikov, Director of the Russian Institute for Strategic Studies (RISI) keeps defending the controversial notion that the Belarusian language was created by the Central Committee of the All-Union Communist Party of the Bolsheviks in 1926.

A new video of Reshetnikov appeared on the Internet on December 22, when Vadim Gusev, Minister-Counsellor of the Russian Embassy, was summoned to to Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs over the top-echelon political analyst’s denial of the sovereignty and independence of Belarus.

As reported earlier, on December 21, Youtube channel Action Tube posted a video of the RISI Head’s speech in which he questioned the sovereignty of Belarus. He also stated that our country was following the Ukrainian scenario. RISI is a think tank that works for the administration of the Russian president and other government bodies.

“This fact [the artificial creation of the Belarusian language – belsat.eu] was not invented by the retired general; it is the document that says so. Go and argue with document, not me,” Reshetnikov asks outraged Belarusians.

“No one has scratched the Union State, because we [Russia and Belarus] are in the Union State. The name of this formation does not sound as ‘the Union States of Belarus and Russia’; even in the new Belarusian language it is pronounced in the singular. On a practical level, we live in the same territory. If you do not agree with my wording, leave the Union,” he said.

The top official reiterates that Belarusians and Russians have a common past and ties of blood, but at the same time he accuses Belarusians of attempts to distort history and spread fake information.

“You have gone too far. Ukraine also crossed the line, which resulted in such bloody consequences. Do not go too far… What would you like to be proud of? Of Polish nobles and Litvin princes? … In Russia, every normal person shares my opinion. We [Belarusians and Russians] are one nation, we are members of the Union State, we will fight for being together,” Putin’s analyst sums up.
