It is not advisable to hold two large election campaigns in one year, the head of the Central Election Commission Lidziya Yarmoshyna said on state television, commenting on the presidential and parliamentary elections falling for 2020.
“Our election commissions are not able to combine the two election campaigns consisting of people engaged in public activities,” said Yarmoshyna.
She believes that the elections politicize the atmosphere in the country, which does not benefit society.
“It can destabilize the political and social situation. Therefore, I think, these election campaigns will be separated,” the CEC head noted.
However, she did not specify which elections (parliamentary or presidential) will be held earlier. According to Yarmoshyna, the ideal time for one of the election campaigns would be November 2019.
In February 2018, local elections will be held in Belarus.
