Coronavirus cases top 6K in Belarus


As of Monday morning, the number of the people who contracted the coronavirus infection has totalled to 6,264, the Belarusian Health Ministry reports.

Belarus’ Vitsebsk region ranks second (1,504) after the city of Minsk (3,023) in terms of the number of patients with coronavirus. There are 185 cases in Brest region, 322- in Homiel region, 176 – in Hrodna region, 789 – in Minsk region, and 265 – in Mahiliou region.

92 persons are in serious condition; the death toll has risen to 51.

For the time being, 514 patients who were previously diagnosed with COVID-19 have recovered and discharged from hospitals.

In the past 24 hours, the Health Ministry has recorded 457 new cases of infecting; 510 – on 19 April, 518 – on 18 April.

Although Metropolitan Pavel called on Belarusian Orthodox believers to stay at home on Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday (i.e. over the past weekend), many people went to churches throughout the country. The Belarusian authorities have not introduced quarantine measures yet.
