Political prisoner Lipen flees Belarus


Political prisoner Alyaksei Lipen was previously sentenced to five years of freedom restriction in an open-type institution. He has fled Belarus, the HRC “Viasna” reports.

“Alyaksei Lipen has successfully crossed the border. He is now safe at a border checkpoint in Lithuania,” Alyaksei’s acquaintances told the Telegram channel “Basta!”

The 39-year-old Minsk resident Alyaksei Lipen was found guilty under Article 364 (“Violence or threat of violence against an officer of internal affairs”) and Article 369 (“Insulting a public officer”) of the Criminal Code. He was prosecuted for the comments under the photo of the police officers in the Telegram channel “Punishers of Belarus.”

Alyaksei Lipen was sentenced to 5 years of freedom restriction in an open-type institution or “chemistry.” The political prisoner was serving his sentence in the open-type correctional facility #24 in Hrodna.
