Belarusian Currency and Stock Exchange starts trading Chinese yuan

On March 18, the Belarusian Currency and Stock Exchange will provide an opportunity to conduct operations with the Chinese yuan, reported BCSE.

The rate of the yuan against the Belarusian ruble will be set daily. It will be set in Belarusian rubles per 10 Chinese yuan.

Settlements in yuan will be conducted through the Belarusian commercial bank-resident.

The BCSE notes that the launch of yuan trading is one of the steps towards creating an infrastructure for the transfer of settlements into national currencies. This means that Belarus is trying to switch to settlements with major foreign trading partners in national currencies, as after the EU and U.S. sanctions (in particular, the ban on the importation of foreign currency into the country), opportunities for payments to partners in dollars and euros have decreased.
