Politician Lyabedzka secretly taken from jail and dropped off on outskirts


The politician was to have been released on June 13, at 10:50 am, but the duty officer at the TDF told his wife, Svyatlana, that he was not in the detention center – he had been released, reports Radio Liberty.

Relatives, friends, and colleagues of the politician from the United Civil Party gathered near the jail. A police bus drove out of jail at high speed; all the windows were curtained. The family and friends assumed that it was the vehicle he was taken out of prison in.

The politician was dropped in the Slyapianka district of Minsk, from where he got home by taxi. Anatol said he was taken from the detention center in a car facing the floor.

“I was taken away, and I didn’t even know where, because after a while they put my face down and I couldn’t see a thing, so they just dropped me off somewhere on the outskirts of what turned out to be Slyapianka. I turned to people and asked them to call a taxi,” said the former chairman of the UCP.

Anatol Lyabedzka was detained near Minsk Kastrychnitski district court on May 14, where the trial against the students was held. The politician was sentenced to 30 days in jail for “participation in an unsanctioned event.”
