Tsikhanouskaya says European Commission has no plans to deprive Belarusians of visas

European Commissioner Ilva Johansson recently said that the EU might consider suspending the issuance of Schengen visas to citizens of Belarus due to the crisis with migrants on the Lithuanian border. In turn, Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya said that her team had contacted the European Commission, and the information about the suspension of visas for Belarusians had not been confirmed.

Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya says that her team is in close contact with international partners. After the statement of Commissioner Ilva Johansson about the possible suspension of issuing Schengen visas to Belarusians due to the migration crisis on the Lithuanian border, the team of the former presidential candidate contacted the representatives of the European Commission. The information about the possible suspension of visas was not confirmed.

“The isolation should be strengthened with regard to the regime, while the people of Belarus should be helped. People need support programs, rehabilitation, and facilitation of visas – as we Belarusians are trying to open all the doors the regime is closing,” says the press service of Tsikhanouskaya.

Tsikhanouskaya also addressed European Commissioner Ilva Johansson in her official Twitter and said that “sanctions should concern the regime, not people.”
