Belarusian Yana Pinchuk arrested in Russia over two criminal offenses


On November 3, 24-year-old Yana Pinchuk was in St. Petersburg, summoned to the court for a preventive measure prior to her extradition to Belarus. The girl was kept in custody for two days before the trial, reported human rights activists.

According to Yana’s lawyer, she will be kept in custody at least until December 10 in a detention center in St. Petersburg. Then the prosecutor’s office will decide on her fate and her extradition to Belarus.

The criminal case against Yana Pinchuk was filed in May 2012 for the fact that she’d been running the Telegram channel “Vitsebsk 97%.”

According to preliminary information, charges were filed against the Belarusian under the articles on inciting hatred and creation of extremist groups.

The girl is wanted in her home country, Belarus. She hasn’t been there for a year, but on November 4, she had a ticket to Vitsebsk, to deal with a criminal case. Yana was detained on November 1 at her boyfriend’s place. He is a Russian citizen.
