Estonia extends sanctions on transit of Belarusian oil products

At a press conference held on February 3, Prime Minister of Estonia Kaja Kallas announced plans to expand restrictions after the scandal with the transit of Belarusian oil products through Estonia, reports Reform.by.

In 2021, the transit of Belarusian oil products through Estonia tripled and exceeded €500 million, despite the EU sanctions. It is about petroleum products under code 2707, which do not fall under the EU sanctions and quietly enter the country.

During a February 3 press conference, Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas announced the Estonian government’s plans to expand sanctions.

“We have decided to introduce additional sanctions from Estonia, including goods with code 2707,” Kallas said.

Foreign Minister Eva-Maria Liimets noted that Estonia proposes to the European Union to do the same. The purpose of sanctions is to influence the Belarusian regime and make it comply with international agreements, not to cut Belarus off from the world.
