The attack took place on the morning of May 28 near Dubicze Cerkiewne in the Podlaskie Voivodeship. Soldiers and Border Guard officers successfully prevented a group of migrants from illegally and forcefully crossing the border.

The 1st Warsaw Armored Brigade confirmed the soldier’s death.

We are deeply saddened by the news of the passing of one of our colleagues, a soldier who served in protecting the state border. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones. We stand with our fellow soldiers in this time of grief, commented the Border Guard on the soldier’s death.

Using a protective shield, the soldier blocked the breach in the fence made by the migrants. Then, from the other side of the wall, the perpetrator – after putting his hand through the fence – stabbed him in the chest area. The knife got stuck in the soldier’s body. While assisting the injured, individuals on the Belarusian side continued to toss branches and stones at him and the people who rushed to help him.
