The Guardian calls Belarus Olympic champion Darya Domracheva former KGB agent


Belarusian biathlete Darya Domracheva is good at shooting due to ‘the years in the KGB, the Gurdian journalist Benjamin Haas believes.

In the article Former KGB Agent Wins Biathlon Gold for Belarus at Winter Olympics, the author stresses that Belarus is the only post-Soviet country which preserved the old name (the State Security Committee, KGB) for its secret service.

Earlier the athlete stated her Belarus KGB had never been associated with the political tasks, but was a source of funding for her sports career.

On Thursday, Nadezhda Skardino, Iryna Kryuko, Dzinara Alimbekava and Darya Domracheva won gold in the Women’s 4x6km Relay at the 2018 Olympic Games in PyeongChang. On 17 February, Darya Domracheva clinched silver in the Women’s 12.5K Mass Start.
