Rescuers were unable to reach the ship due to a typhoon. 18 crew members managed to run ashore single-handedly. One was evacuated by the Japanese Coast Guard.
Typhoon Lan has already killed one person in Japan. According to local meteorologists, the wind speed exceeded 198 km/h in some regions of the country.
