Russian officials' wages up 38%

Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for the Russian president, said that he had no information about when the officials’ salaries will be thawed and salaries increase by 38%.

Earlier, the press service of the Russian government said that the salary increase is planned for 2019.

In 2014, Russia introduced a moratorium on the indexation of civil servants’ wages.

According to Rosstat, in January – June 2016, the average monthly earnings of federal agencies, ministries and departments’ staff increased despite the 103.5% yearly ban, and 107.7% in the region.

Later, the government clarified that the 38% increase in officials’ salaries was provided for in the civil service development program in the years 2016-2018, which was developed in 2014.

It was about the salaries of officials and not all the payments, and not about a one-off increase, but the “cumulative increase from 2012 to 2018,” explained the Russian government.

The report emphasizes that “due to the economic situation” the figures are unlikely to be reached before 2019.
