According to Ukrainian law enforcers, the death was a result of the bomb explosion. Sharamet was a founder of the “Belarusian Partisan”. In 2010 he was deprived of Belarusian citizenship “in connection with obtaining the Russian citizenship”. According to “Belarusian Partisan”, the decision was approved by the Security Council, and the reporter saw this as revenge by the authorities for his professional activities.

In 1997, Sheremet was detained by law enforcement agencies of Belarus, while filming a report about the transparency on the Belarusian-Lithuanian border. The journalist was accused of trespassing, illegal journalistic activities, as well as cooperation with foreign intelligence agencies. He received two years’ suspended imprisonment and one year of probation (Zavadski received one and a half year suspended sentence).

From October 1999 to May 2000, Sharamet worked with Zavadski in Chechnya, where they were filming a “Chechen Diary” film for the ORT.

On July 7, 2000 Zavadski disappeared under mysterious circumstances on his way to the Minsk airport. Based on the results of his own investigation, Sharamet made a documentary “The Wild Hunt”.

Recent journalistic materials by Sharamet included articles about the closed city of Zheleznogorsk at the bank of the Yenisei, as well as the rating of “10 failed coups” for the publication “Historical Truth”, which Sharamet wrote in the wake of the Turkish coup.

Sheremet was 44 years old, he left two children, son Mikalai and daughter Lizaveta.

Pavel Sharamet’s Mother said the reporter will be buried in Minsk.
