FEMEN activist commits suicide leaving note


Oksana Snachko was one of the founders of the women’s movement.

In 2011, Oksana picketed the KGB building in Minsk.

Oksana Shachko’s suicide has been confirmed by her acquaintances in social networks and another co-founder of Femen Anna Gutsol. They also wrote that Oksana left a note in English “You are all fake”, which was addressed to her French acquaintances.

In 2013 she received a political asylum in France. The girl was a successful artist, she held regular exhibitions of her works. Over the past 2 years, the girl has tried to kill herself twice.

The concrete causes of the suicide have not been made public.

In 2011, Shachko participated in the Femen event in Minsk. Together with two associates, they picketed the building of the KGB while being topless. The girls organized that performance on the anniversary of the Ploshcha 2010 dispersal. Later they said that the Belarusian special services confiscated their documents, took them to the forest, where they were threatened and brutalized, forced to undress and hold posters with fascist swastikas, and had green liquid poured on their heads.
