Drunk men detained for insulting Belarusian language and white-red-white flag

Two men insulted the national symbols and picket holders collecting signatures for nominating First Deputy Chairman of the Movement “For Freedom” Yury Hubarevich (nominated for deputy in 108-th “Kalinousky” constituency) to the House of Representatives and then attacked the protesters. Police detained the instigators.

“The two men were drinking near the store in the Kalinouski street where our picket was,” says a member of the initiative group Ales Slavinski.

According to him, the man approached the activists and began to insult them, then one of them hit twice the member of the Ales Rusevich initiative group.

“The men were strongly built, perhaps, the locals or provocaters,” said Ales Slavinski.

The picketers called the police who detained the hooligans and drew a protocol. A representative of the Investigative Committee was also at the scene.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”227122″ img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]Locals helped the protesters to defend themselves, said pyx.by.

Provocations on the pickets for the support of Yury Hubarevich have taken place the second day in a row. On 9 July, a drunk couple began to provoke the protesters on the Kalinouski street, near the shopping center.

“A middle-aged couple sat not far away from the station and started to drink alcoholic beverages. The woman wanted to know how much we were paid for standing under the white-red-white flag,” says a member of the initiative group Mikita Semyanenka.

“Everything was under the surveillance of the shopping center cameras, so any aggressive reaction on my part could have been used against the signature collectors for Hubarevich. I tried to convince the person to behave properly, but the man continued to shout that we want to bring NATO into Belarus and sell ourselves to the Americans,” said Semyanenka.

According to him, the provocation was noticed by athletic guys who looked like football fans. “One of the guys asked the tipsy man why he was provoking us and offered to go behind the supermarket “for a talk”. The drunk man yelled some more and then ran away”.
