Detained Belsat reporters accused of causing damage to Minsktrans

Detained journalists Katsyaryna Andreyeva and Darya Chultsova are accused of causing material damage to Minsktrans in the amount of 11,562 rubles during the live broadcast from “Changes Square” on 15 November.

The journalists are accused of taking an active part and even leading “group actions that grossly violate the public order”, which resulted in disruption of public transports. The lawyer informed Katsyaryna’s relatives of this fact.

The investigation considers a peaceful protest on “Change Square,” from where Katsyaryna and Darya were live-streaming precisely as a “gross violation of public order”.

The investigation claims that Katsyaryna and Darya’s stream caused the delay of 13 bus routes, three trolleybus routes and three streetcar routes. The damage to Minsktrans was estimated at 11,562 rubles and 14 kopecks.

Katsyaryna Andreyeva and Darya Chultsova have been kept behind bars since 15 November. The journalists are charged under part 1 of article 342 of the Criminal Code and the materials of the case have already been brought to court. Human rights activists recognized Katsyaryna and Darya as political prisoners.
