Belarusian poet in exile Mikhas Kavyl dead at 101


Mikhas Kavyl died in South River, New Jersey, USA on April 6th.

The memorial service day for the Belarusian poet has not yet been determined. But he will be buried in the Belarusian cemetery in South River.

Poet Mikhas Kavyl (real name – Yazep Leshchanka) was born in Slutsk district on 1 December 1915. He lived most of his life in America, in South River, New Jersey. It was a place of settlement for many Belarusians who had come to live in the United States.

In exile, Kavyl published a collection of poetry called “Crossroads”, “Under the White Stars”, “Heavy Thoughts,” “Between Fires”.
