Belarusian attempts to smuggle signal flare to Ukraine


An investigation on two articles of the Belarusian Criminal Code has been launched regarding the incident.

On February 25, at the Naraulyanski District of the

Homiel Region, border guards found an article in the glove compartment of a Belarusian citizen’s car. It looked like a grenade.

The border guards immediately closed the crossing and encircled the territory. The situation reported to rescuers and police, as well as Ukrainian border guards.

According to the results of the technical check, experts established that a suspicious object was a signal flare. The press service of the border committee reported that ballistic examination had been appointed.

An investigation was launched by the border service in relation to the driver in relation to the “unlawful actions with respect to firearms, ammunition and explosives” and “illegal movement of firearms or ammunition across the customs border of the Eurasian Economic Union or the state border of Belarus”.
