Belarus offered presidency of important international organisations - FM

Belarus was offered the presidency of ‘some important international organisations’, Foreign Minister Uladzimir Makey told TV station Belarus 1 on December, 31.

He recalled that Belarus was holding the the presidency of the Central European Initiative (CEI) throughout the year, and the partners highly appreciated its work.

“We have been asked to consider the chairmanship of some other, more powerful organisations. I would not like to go into detail, but now we are weighing all pros and cons. I think that decision will be made later,” the minister said.

According to Makey, the West’s perception of Belarus has changed for the better.

“Belarus’ hosting the 26th session of the OSCE PA, our presidency of the Central European Initiative, holding the anniversary summit of the CSTO – all these events point to the fact that the world has started to have another view of Belarus, which is good news. This is only the beginning,” he stressed.

Speaking about foreign policy priorities for 2018, Makey said that Belarus would continue to develop cooperation with its traditional partners; special attention would be paid to the relations with China, the EU and the United States, the countries of Southeast Asia and Latin America.
