Belarus leader outraged at lack of progress: ‘People want to eat every day!’

Alyaksandr Lukashenka slammed the government’s failure to meet the requirements related to the pay rise at Tuesday’s meeting to discuss the country’s regional development.

Moreover, salaries are not even paid in time. This is the responsibility of Prime Minister and First Deputy PM, he stressed.

According to information presented at the event, only 10 out of 128 districts and towns paid salaries that were above the country’s average in 2018, and there are no such districts or towns in Mahiliou region. No change has been observed in Q1 2019.

“You know that employment and timely payment of salaries are under my special control. I am not going to soften my stance on this matter, because people want to eat every day and they need to buy clothes for their kids to be able to send them to kindergartens and schools. I don’t think I have to tell you that,” state-run news agency quotes Lukashenka.

It should be recalled that Alyaksandr Lukashenka is infamous for reiterating his promise regarding ‘$500 average salary in Belarus’ and failing to keep it.
