Case against Ihar Baranouski for reposts from Belsat sent for revision

Brest regional ethnographer and editor of the “Church” newspaper Ihar Baranouski was supposed to be tried for reposts of Belsat materials. The trial was to be held on 28 October, but it was never held. The case was returned for revision.

Ihar learned about it when he arrived at a Brest court.

“The trial of my case was postponed to another unknown date. Judge Raman Karaban sent the case for revision. It was so out of hand that the judge refused to consider it in such a form. However, I do not rule out that the police will rewrite the report,” said Ihar Baranouski in a conversation with Belsat.

On July 27th, (the day Belsat materials were labeled “extremist”) Baranouski posted two links to Belsat in social networks. One link contained a video interview with Tsikhanouskaya, the other – a banner with information about the number of political prisoners in the country.

The regional ethnographer was prosecuted under part 2 of article 19.11 of the Administrative Code (distribution, production, storage and transportation of information materials that contain calls to extremist activity or promote such activity). However, the police didn’t take into account the fact that an administrative case can be tried only within two months after the offense, and Baranouski shouldn’t have been charged at all.

“The police don’t pay attention to the terms, they have no time for the law, which is why such cases and reports appear. And we see that the judge did not consider it, but I do not think this is the end of the story,” human rights activist Raman Kislyak said to Belsat.
