He remains in custody in pre-detention center in Homiel.
On 28 January it was reported that the human rights defender from Homiel – Leanid Sudalenka – was charged under part 1 and 2 of article 342 of the Criminal Code (organization and preparation of actions that grossly violate the public order and financing of such activities).
Leanid Sudalenka was detained on January 18 on the way to his office. He was taken for interrogation to the Investigative Committee, where his lawyer was able to get only closer to the evening. Then he was placed in the local jail and a few days later transferred to the pre-detention center. The Belarusian human rights community recognized Sudalenka as a political prisoner.
Two weeks before his arrest Sudalenka was detained in the public and political center in Palesskaya Street, 52, where the ‘Homielskaia Viasna’ office is located. He was searched and the documents concerning the activity of the human rights defender (court rulings and appeals) were seized.
