Theater director and university professor fired as purges continue

According to some reports, the director of the Theater of Young Spectators Uladzimir Savitski, and associate professor of BSU Maksim Shundalau have been fired.

Director of the Young Spectator Uladzimir Savitski was dismissed on January 20, reported telegraph channel BY_culture. Later it emerged that Savitski was legally still in office, but his dismissal would be formalized soon.

It is reported that the alleged reason for the dismissal was the play “Control essay” about the conflict of graduates with the school administration. Before the premiere, information about the postponement of the performance due to the illness of the actors appeared in the social networks of the theater. Theater workers believe that the play can be removed from the repertoire.

The authorities “persuaded” the BSU instructor, candidate of physical and mathematical sciences, associate professor Maksim Shundalau, to give in the notice. Natalia Abrashyna-Zhadayeva, professor of higher mathematics at BSU, reported that on Facebook.

A few days ago, the Minister of Culture of Belarus Anatol Markevich said that more than 300 employees who had a “destructive stance” had been dismissed from cultural institutions. Later, the news about the minister’s statement was removed from the page of sb.by.
