Ukrainian MPs have approved a Ukrainian presidential decree on partial mobilization. A total of 232 MPs voted for this decision, a Ukrinform correspondent reported.
Under the law, mobilization is conducted within 45 days from the date of entry into force of the decree.
“The need to make a decision on partial mobilization is triggered by the spread of terrorism on Ukrainian territory, leading to the deaths of civilians, servicemen and employees of military formations and law enforcement agencies of Ukraine in the eastern regions of the country,” reads an explanatory note to the law.
The reason for the introduction of mobilization is also the concentration of Russian troops on the border with Ukraine.
“The need to introduce partial mobilization is related to the concentration of groups of troops (forces) with significant offensive potential on Russian territory near the state border of Ukraine, a threat of attack, and a threat to Ukraine’s independence,” reads the document.
However, National Security and Defense Council Secretary Andriy Parubiy, while presenting the law, said that the information about the number of those previously mobilized and to be mobilized “cannot be distributed.”
