Volha Klaskouskaya sentenced to 30 months in jail

On January 20, a Brest court passed a sentence for political prisoner Volha Klaskouskaya. She was found guilty of insulting a Brest policeman (Article 369 of the Criminal Code) and sentenced to two and a half years in jail, reports the HRC “Viasna”.

According to the human rights activists, Volha Klaskouskaya was charged with insulting a public officer when she had already been serving a sentence in the Homiel colony for another crime. A year ago, Klaskouskaya was sentenced to two years in jail under Part 1 Article 342 of the Criminal Code for taking part in a protest action during which traffic was blocked in the Serabranka district of Minsk.

Volha was sentenced to a year and a half of freedom restriction at home or home “chemistry” under Article 369 of the Criminal Code (“Insulting a public officer”). In total, she was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in a minimum-security penal colony.

Volha Klaskouskaya refused to participate in the trial, explaining her refusal by the fact that “the trial was illegal and unfair”. According to the human rights center “Viasna,” she left the hearing with the words “Live Belarus!”
