Klichau: Girl gets suspended prison sentence for comment insulting Lukashenka


On October 19, Klichau district court passed a guilty verdict in the case of 28-year-old local resident Dziyana Hushcha, human rights centre Viasna reports.

She was charged with ‘public insulting the president’ under Part 1 of Art. 368 of the Criminal Code.

According to the prosecution’s version, the defendant left an insultive comment on 27 October 2021 on the Telegram channel Klichau Chat in wake of Lukashenka’s statement in which called the protesters ‘a crowd of drunk, insane, drugged, tobacco-scented people’. She wrote: “There are no such words in my lexicon that would describe this sc*m.”

Prosecutor Mikalai Belavusau demanded that Dziyana Hushcha get two years of imrisonment with suspended execution of sentence. Judge Larysa Korza took heed of the prosecutor’s demand and sentenced the girl to two years in jail with a two-year reprieve.
