The developments in Afghanistan, Belarus, and Ukraine are to be discussed during Chancellor Angela Merkel’s upcoming visit to Moscow, Germany’s Government Spokesperson Steffen Seibert said on Wednesday.
“It will definitely be about major international issues: the conflict in eastern Ukraine, for which Russia can do more than it is doing, and Belarus,” news agency TASS quotes him.
According to the top German official, the situation in Afghanistan is expected to be on the agenda as well.
Seibert also made mention of Nord Stream 2, stressing that it is crucial for Germany that Ukraine will continue transiting Russian gas in the future. He announced that Berlin would speak up for that.
In addition, Steffen Seibert stated that the case of Alexei Navalny had a negative impact on Russian-German relations.
As reported earlier, Angela Merkel’s visit to the Russian capital city and her meeting with President Vladimir Putin are scheduled for Friday, August 20.
