Well-known Russian anti-fascist detained in Belarus


Riot police and people in civilian clothes broke into the house where well-known Russian anti-fascist Alexei Sutuga was delivering a lecture and arrested the audience (15 persons). The situation took place in the Belarusian town of Baranavichi.

In the period of 2014 to 2017, the Russian anarchist and anti-fascist Alexei Sutuga aka Socrates was serving his term in prison. He was sentenced for a fight with a far-right activists. According to Sutuga’s friends and associates, the sentence was part of politically motivated persecution.

The Belarusian anarchists did not specify what kind of lecture Sutuga was giving. According to the anarchist association ‘Pramien’, almost all of the detainees were later released. An administrative protocol was drawn upon Alexei Sutuga and two Russian citizens for allegedly distributing extremist materials. The anarchist magazine Autonom was seized from them.
