Visa regime issue between Belarus and Russia to be solved by World Cup

Russia expects to resolve the question of mutual visa recognition with Belarus by the spring of 2018.

In an interview with Kommersant, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Grigory Karasin stated that both sides “are interested in creating an international legal basis for the visa issue solution as soon as possible and regulate the procedure for the transit of foreigners from Russia to Belarus and vice versa.”

According to the diplomat, they want to resolve the issue before the World Cup.

Karasin noted that already in April the parties regulated the regulation for foreigners’ air border crossig. The corresponding flights were transferred to international terminals.

The agreement on mutual recognition of visas will resolve the issues of the five-day visa-free entry of foreign citizens and the entry of foreigners into Russia through Belarus.

You can now enter Belarus without a visa not only through the airport “Minsk”. In new regions, the period of temporary stay for foreigners has been increased to 10 days.

The five-day visa-free regime was introduced in Belarus on February 12 for citizens of 80 countries. Only those who arrive at the ‘Minsk’ airport can take advantage of this opportunity. This year, about 80 thousand tourists arrived in Belarus on a visa-free basis.
