Viktar Babaryka calls for collecting signatures to amend Constitution

The potential presidential candidate Viktar Babaryka has called for a nationwide referendum on the amendment of the Constitution of Belarus. He voiced this initiative in a video message, which was recorded in case of his arrest and published the other day.

“I want to announce a new initiative and I really hope that you will support me. I suggest holding a national referendum on the amendment of the Constitution of Belarus, taking the Constitution of 1994 as an example,” he said.

The potential candidate expressed confidence that if more than 400 thousand signatures were collected in his support during the month, it won’t be a big problem to collect 450 thousand people for the next two months, “who will be ready to make their country what it should be regardless of who wins on August 9”.

To implement this plan, it is necessary to form an initiative group of more than 100 people, formulate the issues to be considered at the referendum and collect 450 thousand signatures for holding it.

“I think this initiative will show the unity of the Belarusian people, their aspiration for true power of the nation. Regardless of who will be declared the winner on August 9, Belarus will get a new Constitution before the New Year,” stated Babaryka.
