Ukraine sentences two contributors to separatist TV

A court in Zhytomyr region found journalists Dmitry Vasilets and Evgeny Timonin guilty of assisting the so-called Donetsk republic and sentenced the both to 9 years in prison.

According to the local Prosecutor’s Office, Vasilets and Timonin created web broadcasting services for the separatist ‘Novorossiya TV’. Moreover, one of the defendants was found guilty of distributing media materials with appeals to commit terrorist attacks, inciting ethnic hatred and compromising the dignity of the Ukrainian people.

As previously reported by Ukrainian media, despite the fact that Vasilets and Timonin had to do with several media outlets promoting separatist ideas, they were members of the Public Council under the Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine. They were arrested in November 2015.
