Treaty on founding Union State of Belarus and Russia may be updated

The treaty on founding the Union State of Belarus and Russia may be updated, Mikhail Myasnikovich, Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus, said on Wednesday.

The sides aim at creating equal conditions for economic entities and enforcing equal rights of the citizens of the State.

“I believe we will come up with very serious and interesting proposals, which can be considered as some additions and amendments to the Union State foundation treaty. A lot of intensive work will be required because in addition to formulating the ideas on paper we will have to get them approved by partners in the Union State — Russian government agencies,” state-run news agency BelTA quotes Myasnikovich.

The MPs expect that the Union State Permanent Committee will take an active part in these processes, he stressed.

A session of the organizing committee in charge of preparing the fifth Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia took place in the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus on 17 January. The forum will take place in Mahiliou Region in September.

The Union State was established in 1996.
