Russia may scrap roaming charges for Belarus

Russia’s Communications Ministry supports the proposal to scrap international roaming between Russia and Belarus, Minister Nikolai Nikiforov told reporters.

The proposal was put forward by Valentina Matviyenko, Speaker of the Federation Council during the plenary session of the 4th Forum of Regions of Russia and Belarus. The event is taking place in Moscow.

“There is a market economy in the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus, therefore, the issue should be tackled by telecom carriers. If they appeal to the relevant ministry, we will be happy happy to make appropriate amendments,” the minister told news agency Interfax.
