Rosselkhoznadzor claims apples from Belarus were illegally imported under cover of potatoes

On April 19, Rosselkhoznadzor reported that its staff working across St. Petersburg, the Leningrad and Pskov regions discovered a new scheme of illegal imports of fresh apples from Belarus.

During the vehicle inspection it was discovered that 5 tons of Belarusian potatoes were transported together with 4 tons of apples banned for import into the Russian Federation. Rosselkhoznadzor officially banned the imports of apples from Belarus on April 12.

The apples, according to the agency, were imported without phytosanitary certificates.

“This case shows once again a lack of proper control by the phytosanitary service of the Republic of Belarus over the certification of products manufactured by Belarusian enterprises,” the agency notes.

Four tons of apples were destroyed, and the violator was brought to administrative responsibility.
