Public demands stop Sukhoi Superjet 100 from flying

More than 150 thousand people have signed a petition demanding an end to flights of the Russian-made model “Sukhoi Superjet 100”. The reason for the appeal was the fire of the aircraft in Moscow, which killed 41 people.

“After today’s [May 5. – Approx. belsat.eu] tragedy at Sheremetyevo, I urge you to sign a petition about the complete cessation of flights of the “Sukhoi Superjet 100” in Russia for the period of the investigation. I do not want to be meat, I want peace,” says the author of the appeal, Yelena Kuznetsova.

The petition at change.org says that over the past year at least 8 major incidents occurred in Russia with SSJ 100 aircraft, and their “components fail faster than the manufacturer promises.”

Journalist Alexey Pivovarov claims that the direct cause of the disaster at Sheremetyevo was a hard landing, not a fire.

Airliner Sukhoi Superjet Jet 100 of Aeroflot was carrying out a flight from Moscow to Murmansk. However, after 28 minutes of flight, the aircraft urgently returned to Sheremetyevo Airport. Of the 78 people aboard the aircraft, 37 survived. Of these, 33 passengers and 4 crew members. 41 people died, among them was 22-year-old flight attendant Maksim Moiseev. The man died of gas asphyxiation, trying to save others. Six people were hospitalized.
