Police disrupt event in Press Club Belarus detaining Russian journalists

The police have detained Russian journalists in the Press Club Belarus. Before the open lecture, officers informed journalists from the moloko plus almanac of Moscow, Pavel Nikulin and Jan Patarsky, that they had to follow them into the police precinct.

The policemen did not inform the press Club Belarus representatives or Russian journalists about the reason for the detention.

“Before the open lectures in the Press Club there came two people who introduced themselves as officers of the Savetski Regional Department of Internal Affairs in Minsk. The police copied the passport details of those who were in the room. Then they began to record on camera all those who came to the open lecture and copied the passport data of visitors. Some people did not want to provide their personal data and left. Before the very beginning of the lecture, police officers informed the speakers of the event that they were detained. When asked about the reasons for their detention, the police said that they did not have to desclose this information to the third parties, they simply refused to tell. When asked by Pavel, they said that they would be informed on the way and they were taken to the Savetski Regional Department of Internal Affairs,” Belsat learned from the press room coordinator Alyaksei Shuntau.

‘moloko plus’ is a non-profit almanac dedicated to the problems of violence. The Russian edition is a modern trend in the media, the editors release a print edition and simultaneously conduct offline events. At a lecture in Minsk, the editorial board planned to tell the visitors how to raise money for a project, organize the work of the editorial board and deal with legal, ethical and economic problems.
