Opposition politician sentenced to 30 days in jail over anti-integration protests
On February 3, judge Anatoly Barysyonak sentenced Vyachaslau Siuchyk, the leader of the solidarity movement Together to a 15-day jail term for his participation in the protests against deepening integration with Russia, the human rights centre Viasna reports.
The case was initiated under Article 23.34 of the Administrative Code (violation of the regulations of holding mass events).
In spite of the defendant’s absence, Monday’s trial was not rescheduled; the case was heard in Partyzanski district court of Minsk. According to the judge, the sentence will come into force when the politician is detained.
A written report by a riot policeman is part of the case materials; his name has not been published.
On February 4, Vyachaslau Siuchyk has got another 15-day term; he is facing three more trials over taking part in anti-integration protests. In December 2019, four rallies took place in Minsk.
