Opposition MP to run for post of chairman of Belarus United Civic Party

Belarusian MP Hanna Kanapatskaya has announced her intention to compete for the post of the United Civic Party of Belarus (UCPB) chairperson.

According to her, at the recent local elections only 4.72% of all candidates were members of some political party (the United Civic Party nominated 71 persons, or 0.32%)

“At local elections, which are the most simple, new members of the party gain experience, new methods of political struggle and its technologies are applied. They provide sort of preparatory ground for the parliamentary and presidential elections, and we have failed them. This fact makes me acknowledge a systemic crisis in the leadership of the United Civic Party. Unfortunately, a number of no-secret scandals associated with the leaders are illustrative of my words,” the woman stated.

The UCPB leadership did not support her initiative to establish the civil campaign “Forward, Belarus!” civil campaign and boycotted any cooperation.

“I will run as a candidate for the post of chairman of the United Civic Party and present ananti-crisis plan. Therefore, I inform you about the formation of the team of party fellows. I hope for support of all members of the party during the UCPB congress,” the MP said.
