The Kremlin has decided not to hold the Victory Parade on May 9, RBC has learned from three sources close to the presidential administration and a source close to the Defense Ministry.
Officially, it is planned to announce about the postponement of the Victory Parade in Moscow by the end of this week. It’s expected that Vladimir Putin may make a statement in person, two sources close to the Kremlin told RBC. According to one of the sources, the postponement may be announced on Thursday, April 16, at a meeting of the Security Council.
Earlier, Russian veteran organizations asked the Russian authorities to postpone the Victory Parade in Moscow on May 9 because of the situation with the coronavirus.
In late March, Alyaksandr Lukashenka promised that in Belarus, despite the coronavirus, no events to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War would be canceled. The Defense Ministry of Belarus said the parade dedicated to the 75th anniversary of Victory Day would be held in “traditional format”. It is planned that the parade will be attended by the Russian and Chinese military.
