Belarus No.1 and the world No.5 seed Victoria Azarenka retired from the Grand Slam tournament due to a knee injury.
On May 24 she played with Italian Karin Knapp who won in the first set (6:3). Victoria Azaranka took the lead in the second set (7:6).
During the third set Azaranka turned out to be in no state to finish the match, conceding at 0-4 and giving Knapp the win.
Victoria Azaranka won two Australian Open singles titles (2012 and 2013), becoming the only Belarusian player, male or female, to win a Grand Slam singles title.
