Informants for Russian intelligence may get higher pensions

The efforts of citizens who regularly cooperate with state intelligence agencies should be remunerated, Irina Yarovaya, head of the Russian parliament’s security and anti-corruption committee, believes.

The MP has proposed to change pension legislation and legislation concerning investigative activities in order to pay informants for their cooperation

The draft of this bill was submitted for consideration by the State Duma on March 11, meduza.io reports.

The document explaining the bill states that informants of intelligence agencies have the right to receive pensions for their work, yet the existing pension legislation does not allow for the realisation of this right, as ‘the period of cooperation is not counted as part of the length of pensionable service which determines one’s pension award’.

Irina Yarovaya is notorious for drafting controversial bills, e.g. on upgrading penalties for misconduct at protests, She also demanded to register NGOs receiving overseas funding as foreign agents‘.
