Human rights activist Rabkova still in custody despite 200 bail pledges


The complaint about the change in the preventive measure for Marfa Rabkova, coordinator of the Viasna volunteer service, has not been satisfied. This decision was made on December 14 by the judge of the Partyzanski District Court of Minsk, Katsyaryna Chaiko. The court session was held behind closed doors.

About 200 bail pledges were collected for the release of Marfa Rabkova. However, on November 12, the court issued an order to extend Marfa’s detention. The complaint against this decision was considered on December 14. The court’s decision was negative.

Marfa Rabkova is a member of the Viasna Human Rights Center, coordinator of the organization’s volunteer service. As part of her human rights activities, Marfa, together with the volunteers of the Human Rights Center Viasna, took an active part in the independent observation campaign “Human Rights Defenders for Free Elections”, participated in documenting evidence of torture and other cruel treatment of detained protesters.

Marfa was arrested on September 17, 2020. She is accused under Part 3 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus (“Education or other training of persons to participate in mass riots”). The girl is in jail No. 1 in Minsk.
