Mikhail Myasnikovich, Chairman of the Council of the Republic of Belarus, will represent our country at the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the end of First World War in Paris.
On November 11, European countries mark the armistice signed between the Allies of World War I and Germany at Compiègne (France).
The top official will be on a working visit to Paris on November 10-12. He will attend the memorial ceremony at the Arc de Triomphe as well as at the Paris Peace Forum, tut.by reports.
Myasnikovich is not expected to deliver a speech; he will be communicating with other participants on the sidelines of the event. As part of the visit, the former Prime Minister will meet with the French Senate’s President Gerard Larcher and representatives of the Belarusian diaspora in France.
In September, French MP Christophe Lejeune told Belsat TV contributors Volha Czajczyc and Larysa Shchyrakova that Belarusian president Alyaksandr Lukashenka might arrive in Paris and take part in the festivities. At that moment, Lukashenka’s press secretary Natallya Eysmant did not confirm his attendance.
More than 120 honoured guests, including 80 heads of states and governments, were invited to the international memorial ceremony that would take place on November, 11. After the ceremony, the guests will be welcomed at the Elysee Palace.
According to Christophe Lejeune, these days tension is growing among countries, that is why takeaways of the First World War should be remembered. Therefore, in the same day, the leaders of countries will open the Paris Peace Forum which is aimed at working on proposals to ease international tension. Several thousand people – representatives of leading international organizations, civil activists and others – will be involved in the Forum’s activities.
Today, on November 8, the Belarusian leader is taking part in the CSTO summit in Kazakhstan.
