Der Spiegel sources report that German Chancellor Angela Merkel has secretly visited Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny at the Berlin Charité clinic.
Later, Alexei Navalny confirmed that he had met with the German Chancellor.
According to journalists, with this gesture, Merkel showed solidarity with Navalny. Described as a top-secret operation, the German leader’s visit to the clinic demonstrated that Berlin would not leave the poisoning of a Russian opposition activist without investigation.
Moscow denies the poisoning of the opposition politician. On September 25, Russia announced that it regards the involvement of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in the investigation of the case of Alexei Navalny as interference in the country’s internal affairs.
