Activists Inha Abramava, Uladzimir Kazlouski and Alyaksei Samaylyuk were tried for participation in the rally of solidarity with political prisoners held on May 1 in Brest.

Their cases were considered in Leninski district court on May, 2. The trio was detained for standing and holding sheets of paper on which nothing was written. As most Belarusians are well aware of the problems the country is going through, the activists opted for not chanting or using slogans.

Judge Aleh Miranyuk sentenced Uladzimir Kazlouski to 10 days in jail and imposed fines on Alyaksei Samaylyuk (BYN 345) and Inha Abramava (BYN 230).

On May 3, Brest-based blogger Dzmitry Harbunou and activist Alyaksandr Kabanau who were preventively detained before the rally, are to stand trial.

In spite of intimidation and preventive arrests, protest rallies took place in Minsk and regions. The police attempted to bar activists and journalists from participating.
