Blast near FSB office in Russia's Arkhangelsk, one dead

A man blew himself up at the entrance of the Federal Security Service’s building in Arkhangels (northern Russia) on Wednesday morning.

The explosion occurred at 8.52 a.m. (Moscow time).

“According to preliminary data, the person, who entered the building, took an unidentified object from his bag, which exploded some time later in his hands. As a result, he received fatal wounds,” state-run news agency TASS reports with reference to Russia’s Anti-Terrorism Committee.

Three staff members of the FSB department were wounded.

An investigation is in progress; it is known that the dead did not work for the FSB.

Security would be tightened in the region, local governor Igor Orlov said.

(UPD) A local teenager brought an explosive device to the FSB building and was killed in the explosion, the Russian Investigative Committee reports.
